321 yards, by Jordan Lynch of Northern Illinois in 2013

Lynch actually broke the NCAA record twice, first by rushing for 316 yards against Central Michigan in midseason, and then on a cold night that ended Northern Illinois's perfect 12-0 regular season by running for 321 yards against Western Michigan. These efforts helped to make Lynch, a senior, a serious Heisman Trophy candidate. Coincidentally, the record Lynch originally broke was set 23 years earlier by another Northern Illinois quarterback, Stacey Robinson, who rushed for 308 yards on 22 carries against Fresno State in NIU’s 73-18 victory in 1990. Lynch's 300-yard games came in much more tightly contested games, in a 38-17 win over Central Michigan and a 33-14 victory over Western Michigan.
