3, by Oklahoma’s Steve Owens in 1968
Owens was a running back who won the Heisman Trophy in 1969, his senior season. That is why it’s a bit ironic that he owns a passing record, albeit one that relied on the surprise element. During his sophomore season and halfway through his junior year, Owens had rushed 423 times without throwing a single pass. So his 13-yard scoring toss on an apparent running play against Kansas on Nov. 9, 1968, totally caught the Jayhawks off guard. The next week he turned the same trick against Missouri with a nine-yard scoring pass, then followed that up in the Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl against Southern Methodist with a 21-yard TD completion. Owens threw three more passes during his Heisman season, completing two but neither for a touchdown.
