When Daniel and his mom move cross-country to start a new life in California, Daniel quickly learns that the sunshine state is full of shadows, mainly in the form of karate-trained bullies at his new high school. After being kicked around and almost giving up on his new home, he meets Mr. Miyagi, a mild-mannered janitor who teaches Daniel the art of karate, and the importance of using martial arts to defend good, instead of inflicting harm. His lessons lead him to a karate championship, where he fights against Johhny, the leader of the bullies.
