In iOS 7, a finger swipe down from the top of the screen will bring up the Notification Center, which includes missed calls, text messages, recently-downloaded apps, and so on.
One of the most useful features in the Notification Center is something called Today (visible in a tab at the top of the screen), which can be customized to display an array of information: Weather, stocks, upcoming events stored on the calendar.
To customize Today, follow this chain: Settings > Notification Center. From there, you can toggle on and off the various data points that appear on the Today tab.
