5. 'Flight 232,' by Laurence Gonzales

Laurence Gonzales (author of "Deep Survival") examines the United Airlines flight that crashed near Sioux City in 1989 and the 184 survivors (out of 296 passengers) who survived the flight, despite a fiery landing. "It's a hard book to read if you have any fears of flying at all," Nelson warns. However, she calls it "very moving." "It's the human stories that are the most amazing," she says.
