10 best books of July: the Monitor's picks

Here are the 10 July books to which the Monitor's book critics give the highest grades.

5. "Fin & Lady," by Cathleen Schine

It's 1964 and 11-year-old Fin has just become an orphan. Fortunately he has a very lovely and very wealthy half-sister, Lady, who is only too eager to take him in and raise him in a New York brownstone. Fin's task in exchange: find Lady a suitable husband. Fin & Lady, which flits from New York to Capri and vacillates between more serious family drama and a light-hearted tribute to the Auntie Mame story, is pretty much a perfect summer read.
