Amazon editorial director Sara Nelson shares her thoughts about the Amazon staff picks for the 10 best books of January 2013. 

6. "Little Wolves," by Thomas Maltman

Essayist, poet, and novelist ("Night Birds") Thomas Maltman has produced a stirring set of linked stories built around a father looking for reasons for his son's heinous crime. Set in a small town on the Minnesota prairie, this is a book that Nelson calls "a murder mystery" filled with small town atmospherics with "really beautiful writing about this small and beautiful place."
