Both Katniss and the reader are sent into a tailspin when Peeta takes the stage for an interview with television personality Caesar Flickerman, who films Q&As with each tribute before they enter the arena. After Katniss' interview, Peeta chats with Caesar, showing an ability to be charming on-camera, then tells the interviewer that he's been in love with Katniss since they were both five years old. The confession begins an important plotline and shows Peeta's ability to gain sympathy for himself and Katniss from the Games audience.
