April 2 is the 30-year anniversary of the Falkland Islands War. Argentina and Britain have been at odds over sovereignty of the Falkland Islands for decades, and tensions kicked up when Britain deployed some of its modern warships to the islands, as well as Prince William, as a pilot.
On April 2, 1982, Argentina invaded the islands after decades of unsuccessfully pressing its claim to the territory.
At the time of the invasion, Argentina was under military dictatorship. The country occupied the Falklands for ten weeks, but was handily defeated by the British on June 14. Some 649 Argentines and 255 Brits were killed during the invasion.
