Why all the attention on the Falklands? Five key questions.

April 2 is the 30-year anniversary of the Falkland Islands War. Argentina and Britain have been at odds over sovereignty of the Falkland Islands for decades, and tensions kicked up when Britain deployed some of its modern warships to the islands, as well as Prince William, as a pilot.

What happened after the war?

By the end of the 1980s, after years without diplomatic contact, Argentina and Britain worked toward restoring ties and formally did so in 1990. In 1998 the Argentinean President Carlos Menem visited Britain, and in 2001, Tony Blair became the first prime minister to visit the Falkland Islands.

But the fate of the islands remains a challenge to relations between the nations, particularly over lucrative fishing rights and more recently over oil. For a full timeline of events, visit the Telegraph's outline here.
