Streak snapped: Aug. 29 when Taveras went 0-for-3 in a game in which he was twice hit by Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Tomo Ohka.

Background: After finishing runner-up in the 2005 Rookie of the Year voting, when he batted .291, Taveras was struggling midway through the 2006 season. He was only batting .258 when the streak began, but it helped him lift his average to .278 by the end of the season. He led the majors in bunt hits that year, as well as in 2007, when he batted a career best .320. ... Taveras's 300-game hitting streak remains the longest in Astros history.
