In 1998, the only time the Clippers have had the first overall pick in the NBA Draft, the team selected center Michael Olowokandi. The son a Nigerian diplomat, he played in London as a high school-age player, than at the University of the Pacific. His 11-year NBA career ended with the Boston Celtics in 2007. He never averaged more than 12.3 points per game and ended with an 8.3 career average. Among players drafted after him in 1998 were Dirk Nowitzki, Paul Pierce, and Vince Carter.
