Penn State football: A dozen questions as the post-Paterno era begins

This year will be the most closely watched football season in the history of Penn State. The post-Paterno era comes with many questions. Here are 12.

10. JoePa's son

Where is Jay Paterno?

Good question. The new football coaching staff means that Jay, one of Joe Paterno’s sons, is out a job.  Jay had spent 17 years as a Penn State assistant, including the past 12 as the quarterbacks coach. He has publicly defended his departed father and may continue to do so, but for now, he’s probably inclined to keep as low a profile as possible and look to find a new job next season.  He reportedly is contemplating possible options inside and outside of football. If he stays in football, here’s guessing he’ll either land as an assistant with some major program far removed from Pennsylvania or possibly take a head job with a smaller in-state school. Mike McQueary, the former Penn State receivers coach who emerged as the key witness in the Sandusky scandal, also may be using this time to decompress and consider his next steps.
