As governor, Bush issued line-item vetoes of hundreds of millions of dollars in local projects from the state budget.
He also downsized the state workforce, outsourcing functions such as human resources and state purchasing. He favored three-strikes legislation for repeat offenders, and pushed to limit appeals for death-row inmates.
In 2005, he signed the “Stand Your Ground” law. But after the Trayvon Martin incident of 2012, in which an unarmed black teen was shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer, Bush said, "This law does not apply to this particular circumstance.”
