Government shutdown 101: 12 ways it could affect you

With Congress failing to fund the federal government by Oct. 1, the start of the new fiscal year, the government has gone into partial shutdown. Here is a list of what's open, and what isn't, during the shutdown.

9. What happens to small business loans, federal housing loans, and federal contractors?

New requests for small business loans won’t be processed, but a reduced staff at the Federal Housing Administration will be approving new loans.

Federal contractors will be hit hard, if it’s anything like the 1995 and ’96 shutdowns. During those shutdowns, more than 20 percent of the $18 billion in Washington area contracts were affected adversely, according to the CRS. Some employees of federal contractors were furloughed without pay.
