A Texas woman convicted of starving two horses in 2005 received a 30-day jail sentence with one unusual stipulation, the first three days she was to eat and drink only bread and water.
"She's going to get more than her horses got," Judge Mike Peters told the Associated Press.
He also ordered enlarged photos of the starving horses to be posted on the wall of Melissa Dawn Sweeney's cell as a reminder of her crime. According to the prosecution, Sweeney left the horses outside without food and shelter for more than four months. One horse did not recover, the other was adopted.
