Ten possible vice-presidential candidates for the GOP ticket

Too soon to start speculating about possible Republican vice-presidential candidates? Evidently not. Mitt Romney's rise to the level of presumptive presidential nominee seems to have given political writers and pundits the go-ahead to begin one of the favored handicapping contests in all of politics.

5. Bobby Jindal

Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana acknowledges applause at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington on Feb. 11.

A popular governor in Louisiana, Bobby Jindal is another possibility who would give Romney some regional balance to his ticket (as well as racial diversity, as the first Indian-American on a presidential ticket).

He has solid health-care credentials – while still opposing an individual mandate to buy insurance – potentially helping Romney with a weakness in the eyes of some Republican voters.

He’s a solid conservative who is well liked by many far-right Republicans, and he is another on the list of possible future GOP presidential candidates (and one whom some in the party wish had run this year).

On the downside: Governor Jindal’s response to the 2009 State of the Union address – the last time he spoke to a major national audience – was widely considered a flop.
