Happy (belated) wedding anniversary to Ron and Carol Paul.
We missed it Wednesday, but Ron and Carol Paul celebrated 55 years of marriage with Ron letting Carol sleep in - and breakfast in bed, to boot. Later, he presented her with a bouquet of roses during a campaign event in Las Vegas. (We would have expected at least some solid gold bars, but maybe the couple’s got enough already.)
Looking at some other presidential marriages, Ron Paul, at age 76, has had the longest-lasting nuptials. Mitt and Ann Romney have been married for 43 years while Rick and Karen Santorum come in third at 22 years. Barack and Michelle Obama have been married for 20 years.
Newt Gingrich, on the other hand, has had three marriages totaling 50 years. First was 19 years with his high school geometry teacher, Jackie Battley, followed by another 19 years to Marianne Ginther, who recently gave a scathing television interview accusing Gingrich of all sorts of marital misdeeds. Finally, Gingrich has been married with his current wife, Callista, for 12 years.
So, in summation: taking the average Newt Gingrich marriages suggests one Ron Paul marriage is, in terms of longevity, equivalent to roughly 3 and a third Gingrich marriages.
