Workers in the nation's capital also spent an above-average amount of time in the workplace, with a 43 hour and fifty minute work week, according to the Comptroller data. Residents of the District of Columbia had a slightly better time commuting, spending on average eight minutes less than people living in San Francisco.

In a June 2014 report from the Fiscal Times, it was reported that for D.C. area drivers who had to commute thirty minutes to their job could expect to spend an average of 73 hours in traffic per year – eighth-worst in the country.
