The Renaissance man, who wrote and performed music in addition to directing films and produced much of his own work, often played a Minimoog, a synthesizer which was easier to use in performances than its larger forebears. Zappa often had other members of his band perform with a Minimoog as well throughout his career. The Moog instruments can be heard on Zappa's 1998 album "Cheap Thrills."
