Nicholas Meyer's 1982 movie pits the crew of the Starship Enterprise, led by Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and first officer Spock (Leonard Nimoy), against a superhuman named Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalban). Years earlier, Kirk had stranded Khan and his crew on an uninhabited planet after they attacked the Enterprise and Khan is now seeking revenge.
This movie is revered by "Trek" fans for good reason – it has a great villain and spotlights the always complex and interesting friendship between Kirk and Spock. While many episodes of the original series depict Kirk as a devil-may-care hero, "Khan" has weighty themes like Kirk's fear of getting older and coming to terms with the consequences of his actions.
Khan and Kirk never actually meet in the film – they only talk via computer screens and other forms of communication.
