Oscars 2014: Who will triumph? Check out our predictions

It's been a famously murky year in terms of Oscar frontrunners. In the past, one movie or actor has often emerged as a clear frontrunner in the weeks before the Academy Awards ceremony, but this time, many Oscar races are leaving even industry insiders scratching their heads. Oscar predictions 2014: What will win? 'American Hustle' (starring Amy Adams, l., Bradley Cooper, second from l., Jeremy Renner, third from l., Christian Bale, second from r., and Jennifer Lawrence, r.) received 10 nominations.

Lupita Nyong'o stars in '12 Years a Slave.'

The Oscar contenders:

–Sally Hawkins, "Blue Jasmine"

Jennifer Lawrence, "American Hustle"

Lupita Nyong'o, "12 Years a Slave"

–Julia Roberts, "August: Osage County"

–June Squibb, "Nebraska"

The Envelope, Please: At this point, it's a two-horse race between Jennifer Lawrence's portrayal of a volatile wife in the 1970s and Lupita Nyong'o's role as a horrifically abused slave. Nyong'o (who made her feature film debut with this movie, never mind being a first-time nominee) snagged the Screen Actors Guild prize, but Lawrence did win the Golden Globe and British Academy of Film and Television Arts prize. However, Lawrence won Best Actress just last year for the film "Silver Linings Playbook." Look for Nyong'o to take the prize on Oscar night.
