16. Animated "The Hobbit"

This 1978 television special featured an animated Hobbit Bilbo Baggins and his adventures, based on the classic J.R.R. Tolkien book. The movie serves as more of an intro to what many consider J.R.R. Tolkien’s most kid-friendly book. It carries fewer details from the original story than the lengthy blockbusters moviegoers today have come to expect from the “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” live-action films. The length is also tailored for television audiences, but it serves as a worthy warm up act for the modern movies inspired by Tolkien books.
