This novel of the prairie frontier was published in 1918 and is best for students in high school and older. The book was the final installment in what many consider the author's "prairie trilogy" which documents the life of families living on the Nebraskan frontier. The book is considered a tribute to those who aimed to settle the US west of the Mississippi River and women pioneers in particular.
