Invest as much time and energy as possible helping your student clarify their future goals while in high school. Consider selecting a major and mapping out a tentative career path. Students who know why they’re in school are significantly more likely to succeed, and are less likely to transfer, change majors, or drop out – all of which can be costly.
Encourage your student to take skills assessments, read books about career options, interview your friends about their jobs, intern in the summer, and get to know college students to learn about what they’re studying.
