September 20, 2015: Volkswagen confirms the EPA's findings and makes a public apology. 

"The Board of Management at Volkswagen AG takes these findings very seriously. I personally am deeply sorry that we have broken the trust of our customers and the public,” CEO of Volkswagen Martin Winterkorn said in a statement.

Volkswagen also announces that it will halt new sales for some of the models implicated.
