Home prices are recovering in some regions, fluctuating in others, and stuck in the basement in still others. How they are faring may yet be an important factor in the 2012 presidential election. Here's how home prices in metro areas in six swing states compare with those at the housing market's peak in 2006.

3. Denver – Recovering

Denver area home prices declined 11 percent over the past 5-1/2 years – not good, but a modest hit compared with some other metro areas in swing states. They hit a low in February 2009 and have climbed 3.8 percent since then. Colorado Republicans hold their caucuses Feb. 7, where economic factors such as home prices may factor into their choice for GOP presidential nominee.
