Read these books in 2018

Need some help with selecting new books this year? The Monitor asked four bookstores what books they think will excite readers in 2018. These 13 recommendations are from four independent bookstores across the United States: Prairie Lights in Iowa City; the Strand in New York; Off the Beaten Path in Steamboat Springs, Colo.; and Parnassus Books in Nashville, Tenn. (The Monitor has not reviewed these selections.) 

5. 'Brave' (Jan. 30) by Rose McGowan

"Brave" by Rose McGowan, Harper One, 272 pp.

Rose McGowan, an actress turned activist, is one of the women whose accusations against Harvey Weinstein led to a national reckoning about sexual misconduct and harassment. In Ms. McGowan’s words: “My life … has taken me from one cult to another. ‘Brave’ is the story of how I fought my way out of these cults and reclaimed my life.”

 “Brave” (Jan. 30) by Rose McGowan was recommended by Leigh Altshuler, director of marketing and communications of the Strand in New York.
