11. 'Bull Mountain,' by Brian Panowich

Debut writer Panowich tells the story of the Burroughs family, who have lived on the North Georgian mountain Bull Mountain for generations. Panowich's story spans periods of history and explores the clash between Clayton Burroughs, who works as a sheriff, and a federal agent. "[It's] a story about 'what is loyalty?'" Nelson said.
