4. "The Mockingbird Next Door," by Marja Mills

It was a reporter's dream come true: the reclusive Harper Lee, author of the revered American classic "To Kill a Mockingbird," opened her home and heart to Chicago Tribune journalist Marja Mills. Mills eventually moved into the house next door to Lee and began – with Lee's blessing – researching this affectionate portrait of one of the least known yet most beloved of all American authors.
