File this one under the heading of "stranger than fiction." Philip Eade tells the odd yet true story of Sylvia Brooke, wife of Sir Vyner Brooke, the "last White Rajah," whose family had ruled the jungle kingdom of Sarawak on Borneo for three generations. As privileged socialites who also happened to be colonial heads of state, the Brookes were bizarrely fascinating examples of a world that no longer exists.
