When Orr first moved away from home to join the Oshawa Generals at 14 he admits that he sometimes would cry himself to sleep. Later in life, he learned that his departures took an emotional toll at home, where his mother and sister broke into tears after he left. As hard as it was to leave home at such an early age, a hockey player had to put on a brave face and not spill his inner feelings. “You had to learn to handle the loneliness,” Orr writes. “I signed up for it, because it was the price of pursuing my dream.”
