Beah, also the author of the memoir "A Long Way Gone," tells the fictional story of two men returning to their Sierra Leone village after the events of a civil war. The two were previously teachers and they return to their old jobs, but they struggle to rebuild their community in the face of crime, food deprivation, and an interfering foreign company. "This is about ... what happens in the aftermath of the war when you think everything would be just great," Nelson says of the novel.
