Searles, who is also the author of books including "Boy Still Missing," is behind the story of a young girl named Sylvie whose parents are killed at a church late one night. After their deaths, Sylvie is taken care of by her older sister, who often neglects her. As Sylvie tries to discover what really happened to her parents, she uncovers various family secrets. Nelson says the book's strength lies in its coming-of-age narrative. "[Searles] is good at finding that adolescent language," she says.
