Wecker, who is making her debut with this novel, spins a story about a golem named Chava who meets a jinni named Ahmad and the unexpected relationship that results between the two beings as they explore New York City at the turn of the century. Nelson said the book's genre isn't usually her cup of tea. "I am so not a reader of fantasy... and this book is that," she said of "Golem." But she said the novel explores many other themes through its framework. "It's about a relationship between a golem and a jinni... but it's a way to examine the immigrant experience," Nelson said.
