Madonna has published a series of children’s books called The English Roses, with titles like “Goodbye Grace?” and “Friends for Life!” The New York Times wryly noted that her previous literary effort was called “Sex” and featured pictures of her lounging around naked with Vanilla Ice. The "English Roses" books were best-sellers and Madonna donated the proceeds to charity. The Guardian, perhaps less enchanted with the books, noted the first book’s “strained charm” and suggested that the book would not have been reviewed, if the author had been a mere mortal instead of Madonna.
