Sara Nelson, editorial director of books and Kindle for Amazon.com, talks about the 10 books chosen by Amazon editors as the best of October, 2012.

8. "Muck City," by Bryan Mealer

In "Muck City: Winning and Losing in Florida's Forgotten Town," journalist and award-winning author Bryan Mealer turns to Belle Glade, Fla., to try to understand how what Nelson calls "a sorry little town in the Everglades" can somehow "produce a football team that sends dozens of players to the NFL." Nelson describes the book as  "'Saturday Night Lights'-ish," calling it a "very good portrait of the individuals and the ethos of the town" that also examines "what sports can do for a town."
