9. "Back to Blood," by Tom Wolfe

"Back to Blood," Tom Wolfe's latest is a novel that some are already calling the Miami version of "Bonfire of the Vanities." Nelson describes it as "picaresque," and calls it "cacophonous," a work that incorporates "a million voices, race, class, politics, and family."
