“The monster was so scared, just like the one at my house.” –Xavier, 4
This book is all about the presentation. The first time my kids heard it was from a colleague of mine. She asked them, “Do you want to hear a … scary story?” With wide eyes, shaking hands, and a perfect cadence, she took them to the end, where, surprise! The little boy stood up to the scary monster in his closet just to find out it wasn’t scary at all. This was a nail-biting adventure for my students that I could use to teach about emotions and confronting fears.
