3. 'David Goes to School,' by David Shannon

Little David is back at his shenanigans again, but this time he’s at school. From being tardy, to chewing gum, to not coming in from recess, this book is a sneaky way to teach the difference between appropriate and inappropriate school behaviors. With few words on each page, my students had this book memorized in a snap, “reading” it to themselves, and reciting the rules to each other. I couldn’t even be angry the day the spine ripped off. The students were actually more upset than I was. That book had certainly received a lot of love.
