10. 'Death is a Lonely Business'

This mystery novel set in Venice, Calif., in 1949 follows a series of murders in the then-declining seaside community of Los Angeles where Bradbury once lived. In it, the main character – who is undoubtedly Bradbury himself – helps solve the mystery of the murders along with detective Elmo Crumley. “Death” represented one of Bradbury’s early attempts at mystery writing as well as one of his early instances of molding the narrator after himself.
