4. Pre-eighteenth birthday furor

In an attempt to control the photos sought by the press at the time of Prince William's 18th birthday, Henney arranged for two photographers to have a photo session with the prince. But when some newspapers felt others were getting an advantage with the photos, things quickly turned ugly. Henney offered her resignation because she had failed to get an agreement in writing from the photographers, and the palace accepted it. She says Prince William, who was in the middle of A level tests, immediately called her. "There was no 'Poor me, all this horrible publicity and it's ruined my exams,'" Henney said, according to Junor. "It was 'How are you? I'm so sorry.' There was no thought for himself, it was all about how I was."
