6. Playing with an injured knee

After Woods' knee surgery in 2008, Haney was present when a doctor came by to assess Woods' condition. The doctor told them that Woods had stress fractures on the left tibia, which were usually treated with four to six weeks using crutches, then an extra four weeks of rehab. "I'm playing in the U.S. Open," Woods said. "And I'm going to win it." The doctor told him that he could attempt to play, that it wouldn't injure his knee more, but that the pain would be intense. "It's just pain," Woods replied, and asked Haney to come with him so he could go practice.
