2. Work through a disagreement by repeating

At the same marriage class promoted by the government, Weil and her husband were instructed to think of a disagreement they'd had. One of them would present his or her side of the issue. Rather than immediately focusing on a retort or rebuttal, the other was then instructed to repeat the spouse's side of the disagreement out loud. Then they would repeat the exercise focusing on the other person's point of view. According to the instructor, repeating the other person's opinion is a chance to really absorb it, instead of just disagreeing immediately without understanding what the other person is saying.
