Author Seth Grahame-Smith put a unique spin on Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" with his 2009 book. In the new version, heroine Elizabeth Bennet and her suitor Mr. Darcy are living through a plague of zombies, a national crisis that prompts demure young ladies like Elizabeth to undergo extensive combat training. For the book, Grahame-Smith took the text of the original novel and added or amended portions to fit the new idea (with frequently startling additions like "The note was immediately dispatched, but the rider was met with a group of freshly unearthed zombies on the road and dragged off to his demise.") The success of the book led to other similar projects like "Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters." A movie adaptation of "Zombies" is set for 2013.
