7. 'Little Dorrit'

Director Christine Edzard's 1988 film version of Dickens' novel clocks in at almost six hours, but Edzard was praised by critics for capturing the full story of Arthur Clennam and Amy Dorrit, the seamstress serving his mother. Shakespearean actor Derek Jacobi played Arthur, with Alec Guinness playing Amy's imprisoned father.
