Event: Mobile privacy and what your apps are actually doing

Phones have become essential tools for modern everyday life. But as we rely more and more on apps, how can we ensure that they are only doing what we're asking?

Tune in to this Privacy Lab event on Tuesday, June 21 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. PDT and find out about new efforts being made to help users understand what their phones are actually doing.

Speakers include Narseo Rodriguez (@narseo), Research Scientist at Berkeley's International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) and Dave Choffnes (@proffnes), Professor at Northeastern University's College of Computer and Information Science (CCIS).

Rodriguez will discuss ICSI's HayStack project, an app that helps users identify which apps leak personal information and also identifies other important elements of mobile security.

Choffnes will talk about ReCon, a cross-platform system for mobile devices that reveals privacy leaks and gives users control without requiring special privileges or customization.

A short Q&A will follow each session. After the presentations and Q&A, attendees will break into small groups for discussion and networking.
