Team handball is largely dominated by European countries. The sport is a hybrid of basketball and soccer that uses a ball about the size of a cantaloupe and a soccer-style net.  The goalie not only must face shots whizzing at high speed, but must do so at very close range, since shooters may get about 6-1/2 yards away before releasing a shot.
