Since 1900, when women first began competing in the Olympic Games, there have been many unforgettable moments. 

14. She’s both the youngest and the oldest

In 1980, at age 18, German Birgit Schmidt-Fischer became the youngest woman to win a gold medal for canoeing, and in 2004, at age 42, she became the oldest woman to win a gold medal for canoeing.

Overall, Schmidt-Fischer has won 12 Olympic medals, eight of which were gold. Her Olympic career spans 24 years. She is considered the greatest female canoeist of all time.
