“An assassin with a free hand”
Havard Nilsen Friis
“...At the beginning of the trial prosecutors and psychiatrists come over to the defendant and shook hands. The killer smiled welcomingly. Some psychiatrists smiled back.
Try to understand the way this looks, broadcast to the entire world? A handshake is an ancient tradition to show mutual respect, equality and signal fraternization. What do the traumatized children think or feel when they see this? A murderer in convivial intercourse with other adults, who smiles at him? The scene provided too many of these children material for nightmares for years to come. Also, this problem could have been avoided with handcuffs during the trial. A polite and correct behavior at the trial is one thing, it nevertheless suggests that any should be required to shake hands with a murderer.”
